Based on forecast demand and expected passenger volumes, MJC²'s shift planning software creates demand-led rosters, following working hours rules and constraints and business rules while aiming for a close match between demand and cover.

Long-term shift patterns and staffing profiles can be planned strategically, and refined in response to updated information about forecast demand.

Real-time Allocation and Positioning

Real-time data sources such as ETAs for inbound trains and vehicles, estimated/actual occupancy, and the wider status of the transport network (e.g. delayed or suspended services) enables intelligent positioning of staff in anticipation of likely demand and passenger flows.

In advance an initial plan can be optimized, using forecast data and latest information about staff availability (holidays and other absences). As the day progresses, real-time updates inform the optimization system, which can respond by re-assigning personnel to anticipated pinch-points.

It is important that the optimization model takes into account not only staff availability and skills, but also their location. For example it would not be possible for an employee to move from one end to the other of a large terminal or railway station.

MJC²'s scheduling and optimization solutions are configurable, and are able to model the complex rules and constraints that apply to a large terminal or transport operation.
