FLAGSHIP Maritime Software
Maritime Logistics Software
FLAGSHIP focuses on efficiency, safety, environmental friendliness and competitiveness of the European maritime transport industry.
The project involves major shipping lines such as Carnival, Danaos, Containerships, as well as nearly fifty other technology and logistics innovation partners in Europe.
FLAGSHIP-RTS
A key component is the FLAGSHIP-RTS system, which is a next-generation scheduling and optimization solution designed specifically for the container logistics industry.
FLAGSHIP-RTS is a "super-solution", combining powerful and sophisticated optimization technology available with industry-specific planning and scheduling modules:
- Container repositioning optimization: 20-25% reduction in wasted repositioning movements by better planning of empty containers and inventory along the supply chain.
- Haulage optimization: 10-15% saving in haulage costs through better forward planning of movements and dynamic rescheduling.
- Resource balancing: Reduced queuing and congestion in terminals and ports through smoothing of activity profiles, while simultaneously optimizing employee workloads.
Additional benefits include smaller carbon footprint, better space utilisation in terminals, reduced container inventories, faster response to customers, less congestion and traffic, safer operating conditions for employees and lower impact on the local environment.
Container Logistics Optimization
The FLAGSHIP-RTS components address the requirements of all the key players in the container logistics operation:
- Ship operators benefit from lower costs, reduced inventories and better utilisation.
- Port/terminal authorities benefit from reduced congestion and higher throughput.
- Hauliers can plan and manage their resources better to reduce costs and empty running.
- Depots gain from improved resource utilisation and better inventory management.
The FLAGSHIP-RTS solution is unique in offering an integrated approach to the real-time optimization of activity in container terminals, taking into account all the factors that contribute to the complexity of a real port operation.
The scheduling algorithms and optimization techniques used have been designed to address the requirements of the container logistics industry and therefore model the operation accurately while being straightforward and intuitive to operate.
In particular our software can cope with the high volumes of consignments handled by even the largest terminals, dynamically creating optimized solutions in seconds.

Efficient & Green Operations
The FLAGSHIP project improves the safety, environmental friendliness and competitiveness of European maritime logistics operations, increasing capacity and reliability.
Apart from the optimization solutions described above, the project also addresses innovative on-board systems and procedures, shore-based ship management systems and effective and efficient communication technology, while making it easier to stay compliant with new standards and regulations.
